British Athletics Academy in Sporting Excellence
We are thrilled to announce that Year 12 students Rosie Woodhams and Steph Driscoll have both been selected to join the British Athletics Academy in Sporting Excellence (AASE) for 2018-20.
Both girls are talented athletes with Rosie concentrating on 3K and international mountain running for GB while Steph specialies in Heptathlon and 400m Hurdles. Both train hard and regularly both at home and Steph in Liverpool three times a week so nothing has come easily. All credit must be paid to their families who have encouraged and supported them both to this point. Steph came to Dallam Sixth Form from QKS where we are sure they will be following her progress keenly.
Both attended a full day induction at Loughborough College and will attend another three national camps and five regional days before achieving a Diploma in Sporting Excllence (DiSE).
BBC Radio Cumbria were keen to interview the girls today (22 Nov) and this was broadcast in the Breakfast and News Hour (pic shows Steph, Rosie and Head of PE Sarah Greenwood during interview with reporter John Bowness).
It is an honour for any school to have a student invited to attend this prestigious academy of only a few hundred athletes, let alone to have 2 students attend and at the same time. Look out for the Dallam girls in the future – they are ones to watch!
